Justin Lin, who directed four of the Fast and Furious films, will direct Star Trek 3, according to Deadline. He’s being brought in to replace Roberto Orci, who was signed to direct as well as write (see "'Star Trek 3' Writer May Direct"). Orci departed a few weeks back for undisclosed reasons. A director is needed because J.J. Abrams, who directed the first two in the new Star Trek film series, departed to direct Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Lin has been attached to a number of geek films, including Lone Wolf and Cub (see "'Lone Wolf' Movie"), Highlander (see "Justin Lin Ankles 'Highlander' Remake"), and Terminator 5 (see "Arnold Confirms Involvement in New 'Terminator' Film"). Perhaps Star Trek 3 will be the one that gets made with him at the helm.
