Comic sales were up again in May with a 12% over-all increase over May 2003.  Comics were up more strongly than graphic novels, with a 12% increase vs. a 7% increase in graphic novel sales.  Comic dollars were helped by strong sales at the top of the charts, with three titles over 175,000 copies sold.  Image's Spawn Simony, at over 17,000 copies sold, was a strong contributor to the graphic novel dollars, as were Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 8 TPB and The Complete Peanuts Vol. 1 HC.

This is the third consecutive month of year over year increases, since we began calculating those comparisons based on Diamond's new system of reporting sales. It's also the third consecutive month in which periodical sales growth outpaced the growth in graphic novel sales.
