Lionsgate is partnering with Saban Brands to develop a new live action feature based on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the companies announced. The new film will “re-envision” the characters, which were created by Haim Saban over 20 years ago.
The property has done better on television than in film; the TV series has been in continuous production since launch. Fox made two films in the 90s, with the first grossing $38 million, and the second only $8 million. Lionsgate represents a fresh start, with a new attempt to create a film franchise.
