Gestalt Publishing has announced that director Alex Cox, who helmed the 1984 cult hit movie Repo Man, has turned his un-produced screenplay, Waldo's Hawaiian Holiday, into a graphic novel, which Gestalt plans to publish in the fourth quarter of 2007.  Cox planned to film Waldo's Hawaiian Holiday in the mid-1990s with the original Repo Man principals, Emilio Estevez and Harry Dean Stanton, reprising their roles in a gritty sequel, but the financing fell through, so the project will live on as a graphic novel.

Gestalt, which is based in Australia, has two other graphic novel offerings arriving in August well before the Repo Man sequel: Character Sketches ($7.95) a collection of some of the best emerging comic and illustration talent from Australia including Shaun Tan (The Arrival), Justin Randall (30 Days of Night), and Christian Burns (Witch King); and Vowels ($8.95), an 88-page wordless graphic novel by Skye Ogden.
