Lunar New Year Love Story, by Gene Luen Yang and LeUyen Pham, won the award in two categories, Best Publication for Teens and Best Graphic Album—New; it was the only multiple award winner. Yang also took top honors in the Best Writer category.
The awards were presented in a live ceremony on Friday, July 25, during Comic-Con International in San Diego. At the end of the event, Eisner Awards administrator Jackie Estrada announced that she will step down from the post this year. Estrada has been running the awards program since it began in 1990 and has been involved with Comic-Con International since the early 1970s. She is the author of several books, including Comic Book People: Photographs from the 1970s and 1980s (see “‘Comic Book People’”) and a past president of Friends of Lulu, and in 2018 she received the inaugural Harvey Awards Comics Industry Pioneer Award (see “Harvey Awards”).
