Dark Horse will release Good Luck Trolls in a Mystery Box Assortment in July.  The Dark Horse figures will lead by at least a year a major licensing program tied to both the classic property and the upcoming Dreamworks film (scheduled for release in 2014), giving specialty retailers an opportunity to establish a market for this powerful property before it hits a surge in popularity.
The initial release consists of fifteen different figures, with different combinations of body and hair color, as well as some special finishes such as flocked, glitter, glow-in-the-dark, and black light.  There is a rarity scheme, with the rarest figure in a one per master case (four displays) configuration.  The common figures (which have a 2:15 ratio) will also have some unannounced hair color variations, creating more than 15 total color/hair combinations.
Trolls were created in 1959 by a Danish fisherman and wood carver named Thomas Dam.  The property had its first period of high popularity in the U.S. between 1963 and 1965, then was re-introduced and also did well in the 70s, 80s, and 90s.
In 2005, a new animated series called Trollz was introduced, which led to lawsuit between the Danish owners and DIC Entertainment claiming that DIC had misrepresented its abilities and destroyed the image and goodwill of the property.  The product from that iteration has been absent from the marketplace for some time, memories of it have faded, clearing the way for a new re-launch.
Individual figures will retail for $7.99.  Dark Horse has world rights.
