The long-gestating new Pee-Wee Herman feature will now be produced for Netflix, according to The Wrap. The film, written by Paul Reubens and Paul Rust and produced by Judd Apatow (see "Apatow Producing 'Pee-Wee' Pic"), was previously in development at Universal, which is no longer involved.
Production on the Netflix film could begin as early as February, according to the report. Plot details are still unrevealed.
The Pee-Wee comeback has been ongoing for several years, beginning with a Broadway show and HBO special in 2011 (see "Pee-Wee on HBO"). Netflix has the complete oeuvre available, and the first Blu-ray collection of the classic TV series was released in October (see "DVD Round-Up: 'Pee-Wee's Playhouse'...").
