Variety is reporting that Marvel has chosen Layer Cake and Stardust helmer Matthew Vaughn to direct a live action film based on Marvel's Thor comic book. Vaughn walked out on Fox's production of X-3 during pre-production, but Marvel is confident he will stay the course on Thor and is entrusting him with the direction of the third film to be produced (and financed) under the Marvel Studios banner. Although Marvel has not yet set a release date, the company plans to start shooting the film this winter before a threatened writer's strike.
