The most startling image to emerge from Wizard World Chicago appeared to foretell the 'return' of Captain America as well as Alex Ross's return to Marvel.  It turns out that Ross will provide the covers for a new series, which he will also co-plot along with Jim Krueger.  The new project, which Nick Barucci of Dynamic Forces has facilitated, is as yet un-named, but it will fall within the Marvel continuity.  Whether this story involves the true 'return' of Captain America, a story that took place before his death (see 'Death Sells'), a new Cap, or some other narrative device is unclear.

Ross, who had a crucial impact on the world of comic books with his hugely successful series featuring painted interior art such as Marvels (1994) for Marvel and Kingdom Come (1996) for DC, has in recent years been primarily working on DC projects such as the popular 12-issue, bi-monthly Justice series, so the new Captain America project marks a welcome return to the Marvel Universe.  In addition to designing, providing the covers, and co-plotting the new Captain America project, Ross is working with Krueger on a Superpowers series for Dynamite Entertainment.
