The direct-to-DVD Turok: Son of Stone animated feature (MSRP $19.95) is due out on February 5th and early reports indicate that it is not only faithful to the spirit of the original Dell Turok: Son of Stone comics, it is also one of the bloodiest, most action-packed examples of the new wave of animated features targeting older fans and collectors.  Produced by Tad Stones (see 'Animated Turok in Production'), the new film was directed by Dan Riba and Curt Geda, who have worked on some of the very best Warner Bros. superhero cartoons.

Harry Knowles, the Godfather of aintitcool.com, described the new Turok DVD as 'an adult rendering of the classic 50s character... the blood-letting and intensity of the violence was just jaw-dropping, man, I can't think of the last time blood flowed so freely in this style animation.'  While Harry admits that the quality of animation, though nicely designed, was very much Saturday morning-esque, he liked the filmmakers' use of Native American vocal talent and the subtle ways in which they managed to capture the essential spirit of the 1950s comic book saga of an Indian dinosaur fighter.
