Dynamite Entertainment has acquired the rights to create a new comic book series based on Buck Rogers, science fiction's first superstar.  Alex Ross and John Cassaday are providing character designs for the new series, with Ross creating a cover for issue #1 and Cassaday serving as the regular series cover artist starting with the first issue.  Dynamite has reached an agreement with the Dille Estate and Flint Dille, who oversees the Buck Rogers franchise, that will allow Dynamite to produce a wide range of Buck Rogers items including comics, collections (including collecting classic Buck Rogers material), comics-based fine art prints, posters, action figures, trading cards, statues and other high-end collectibles.

Philip Francis Nowlan created the character of Anthony Rogers, an Army Air Corps officer who falls into a coma and awakens in the 25th Century, for a story that appeared in the August 1928 issue of Amazing Stories.  John Flint Dille, the president of the National Newspaper Service syndicate, brought the character to the world of newspaper strips and reportedly also suggested the nickname "Buck" based on the popular western movie hero, Buck Jones.  The comic strip, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, which was the first science fiction newspaper strip, debuted on January 27th, 1929 and ran for more than 38 years.  A true multi-media property, Buck Rogers -- in addition to its long signature run in newspapers--has been a success on radio, as movie serial, and on TV.
