Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars property, launching in theaters in August followed by a TV roll-out in October, is entering the marketplace with a strong show of force over a six month period beginning in July.
Things kick off on July 26th, when product featuring The Clone Wars images will hit the market.
The theatrical release of the The Clone Wars CGI animated feature is on August 15th (see “Star Wars: The Clone Wars Movie”).
The television show hits Cartoon Network in October.
The DVD of the feature film will be released in stores in December.
Despite the lack of a theatrical release, Star Wars was one of the top boys brands last year (see “Hasbro Bullish on Iron Man Toys”), so even without the new push for The Clone Wars, the core Star Wars brand had considerable momentum going into this year. Now with this new storyline and licensing stream, focusing on a new, younger audience, Lucasfilm is expanding the multi-generational appeal of Star Wars to include kids to a greater degree than ever before.
