In the latest dispatch from the Comic-Con-fueled “Comic Book Option Season,” the Hollywood trades are reporting that Summit Entertainment (Michael Clayton, Twilight) has acquired the film rights to the Virgin Comics’ comic book series The Leaves written by Kevin J. Walsh and illustrated by Ashwin Chikerur.

Walsh will write the screenplay adaptation of his cross-cultural narrative about a New York doctor who travels to India to attend the funeral of a friend and meets a soothsayer who tells him that he is the man who will bring about the apocalypse.

Virgin Comics founder Gotham Chopra will produce the film along with Virgin Comics CEO Sharad Devarajan.
