Variety is reporting that Bryan Singer’s Bad Hat Harry Productions is teaming up with Radical Pictures to develop a live action feature film based on Freedom Formula, a five-issue comic book series created by Edmund Shearn. The mecha-influenced comic, which Radical Publishing will debut in August, is a futuristic Top Gun set in a world where powered exo-skeletons have replaced fighter jets. The young hero has a specialty affinity for piloting the suits in this saga which appears to display a definite anime influence.
According to Variety Singer will produce along with Radical’s Barry Levine. The deal for Freedom Formula is the second Comic-Con option announced this week involving Bryan Singer—the Superman Returns director is also working with Warner Bros. to bring Rob Liefeld’s Capeshooters to the big screen (see “Warner Bros. Rolls With Capeshooters”). Radical Publishing also has Hercules: The Thracian War set up with Universal and Caliber has been optioned by John Woo for his Lion Rock Production Company (see “Peter Berg to Helm Hercules”).
