In late November Mayfair will release Steam Barons, the first expansion for Martin Wallace’s railroad building game Steam. Steam Barons expands the Steam board game in a number of ways. Most importantly it allows players to compete for ownership of the various companies. No longer are players limited to owning and controlling just one line. Now they can compete for ownership of all six companies with the primary shareholder deciding the company's action at every turn.
Steam Barons (MSRP $50) contains a full color double-sided game board, 6 company displays, 38 railway track tiles, 32 money tokens, 1 first player marker, 16 black goods cubes, 144 train track ownership markers, and 1 stock market game card. The wooden train markers can be used to mark track ownership instead of the discs used in the regular Steam game. Steam Barons, which was also designed by Martin Wallace for players 12 and up, is an expansion, not a complete game. It requires ownership of the regular Steam game in order to play it.
Mayfair is also offering the 144 wooden train tokens (done in six different colors for the six players) as a separate game accessory for players of the Steam board game. The Steam Locomotive Set ($25) comes packaged in a translucent plastic box with a snap closure.
