Avatar director James Cameron said he could “just add water” to the long-gestating Battle Angel Alita feature “…and we’re ready to go” in an interview with MTV. He said there was a “very good script” (presumably the one by Laeta Kalogridis, see “Ghost in the Shell Movie Closer”), and that a year of production design had been invested, with an art reel the result.
Of course the director, whose groundbreaking Avatar is opening this weekend, not only has plenty of options but has also been notoriously slow to pull the trigger. It’s clear that the tools developed to film Avatar would be employed in a Battle Angel Alita feature, but not at all clear that that’s where he’ll use them next.
