Fresh from his success with Shutter Island, Martin Scorsese plans to shoot his next film, an adaptation of Brian Selznick’s quasi-graphic novel The Invention of Hugo Cabret, in 3D.  The hugely inventive children’s saga, which won the prestigious Caldecott Award (see “Hugo Cabret Wins Caldecott”), has been adapted for the screen by John Logan, who wrote The Aviator for Scorsese.

Variety is reporting that Scorsese will begin filming The Invention of Hugo Cabret in London this June.  Sony has announced that the film will debut on December 9th, 2011 in order to take full advantage of the holidays, traditionally one of the best periods of the year for movie attendance.
