The Hollywood trades are reporting that Oni Press and its film production subsidiary Closed on Mondays Entertainment have inked a “first look” deal with the CBS Television Studios.  In an agreement that will be announced at Comic-Con, CBS will get the rights to mine Oni’s backlist for potential TV series and specials.

Oni Press, which had Whiteout made into a film by Warner Bros. and has Scott Pilgrim vs. the World due in theaters on Aug. 13th, has done very well in getting its properties optioned for the big screen.  The publisher also has The Return of King Doug set up with Ben Stiller’s Red Hour films, and Ciudad in development at Paramount, while The Damned is at Dreamworks, and Last Call, Leading Man, and Frenemy of the State are all at Universal.

The deal with CBS addresses Oni only Hollywood weak spot by providing the possibility of getting the publisher’s properties set up for the small screen.
