The prime focus of the Marvel booth at the San Diego Comic-Con is a replica of Odin’s golden throne from the Thor movie currently in production. On Saturday Thor helmer Kenneth Branagh opened the golden doors behind Odin’s Throne to reveal a replica of the mysterious and powerful Destroyer Armor used in the movie.
Introduced by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1965 in Journey Into Mystery #118, the Destroyer is a charmed set of armor forged by Odin himself. The Destroyer Armor has been used several times by Thor’s nemesis Loki and each time it has come close to terminating the blonde, hammer-wielding god. The Destroyer is lifeless by itself most of the time until animated by the life force of a sapient being at which point it becomes nearly invulnerable while retaining the ability to subvert the character of whoever is animating it unless that being has an extremely dominant personality like Thor or Loki.
The exact role of the Destroyer in the new Thor film has not been released, but it is undoubtedly an important one and the "new" Destroyer from the movie appears to be somewhat sleeker than the comics version.
