Fantasy Flight Games will release a new “Living Card Game” based on Lord of the Rings, the popular fantasy works of J.R.R. Tolkein, in April 2011. This will be the first co-operative game in the Living Card Game series.
One or two players take up the mantle of heroes from the land of Middle-earth, seeking to defeat the plots of Sauron by completing various quests. Additional players can join the game by combining two copies of the Core Set. As a co-operative game, the players must work together to “defeat” the game system itself, winning or losing as a team.
The Core Set includes three different scenarios, with different levels of difficulty. 12 different heroes are included for play. In total, 226 cards are included in the Core Set for players to build their decks.
True to the LCG model, The Lord of the Rings LCG will be expanded with monthly “Adventure Packs” which will include additional character options, new cards for the game, and new scenarios.
The Lord of the Rings Core Set will have a suggested retail price of $39.95.
