Graphic novel publisher NBM, which has self-distributed to the book trade for decades, will now be distributed by Chicago Review Press subsidiary Independent Publishers Group. IPG will also handle all warehousing and fulfillment for NBM. The new relationship begins June 1st.

NBM had only rarely used book trade distribution since its founding in the mid-70s: Caroline House for a brief period in the late 70s and PGW for two years beginning in 1986. In recent years its self-distribution has been aided by the use of a book fulfillment service warehouse.

NBM publisher Terry Nantier cited two reasons for the change. “In the last few years, as graphic novels’ acceptance has widened considerably, the scope of where they can be sold has widened a lot as well,” he said. “That, plus logistics considerations, points to a good time to partner with such a strong distributor as IPG.”

Prior to adding NBM, IPG distributed a small graphic novel roster of under 100 titles.

NBM sister company Papercutz continues to be distributed by Macmillan.
