The massive Star Wars: The Complete Saga nine disc Blu-ray set will include over 40 hours of extras. In addition to audio commentaries; deleted, extended, and alternate scenes; interviews and other fairly typical extras, this set includes Star Wars spoofs and documentaries, including some never before available:
Star Warriors (2007, 84 minutes) is a documentary tribute to the 501st Legion. A Conversation with the Masters: The Empire Strikes Back 30 Years Later (2010, 25 minutes) has the recollections of George Lucas, Irvin Kershner, Lawrence Kasdan and John Williams.
Star Wars Spoofs (2011, 91 Minutes) includes clips from Family Guy, The Simpsons, How I Met Your Mother, and more.
The others are The Making of Star Wars (1977), The Empire Strikes Back: SPFX (1980), Classic Creatures: Return of the Jedi (1983); Anatomy of a Dewback (1997); and Star Wars Tech (2007).
As revealed at CES (see “Star Wars Blu-ray Release Set”), there will also be two smaller sets to make the two trilogies available separately. All three will be available on September 16th in North America and September 12th in the rest of the world.
Lucasfilm is using its usual care in connecting with fans on this set. The original announcement was made at Star Wars Celebration (see “Star Wars in Blu-ray”), and the company will introduce the special features from the set at Comic-Con. This will be the 35th anniversary of the first appearance of Lucasfilm at Comic-Con in 1976.
