Universal has scheduled the comic book-based corpse comedy R.I.P.D. for a theatrical debut on June 28th, 2013.  Ryan Reynolds (Green Lantern) will star opposite Jeff Bridges, who replaced Zach Galifianakis (see “The Dude Gets 'R.I.P.D'”), in the film based on the comic book written by Peter Lenkov and published by Dark Horse.

According to Deadline, Robert Schwentke, who directed the highly successful adaptation of Warren Ellis’ Red, which successfully mixed humor and action, is still set to helm R.I.P.D. from a screenplay by Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay.  Neal Moritz, Michael Fottrell and Mike Richardson are producing.

What isn’t known at this time, but which should become clear over the next few months is whether Universal was able to schedule the film because Reynolds is not going to be making a Green Lantern sequel, or whether the studio found a way to schedule around a potential second trip Oa.
