Disney and Johnny Depp’s Infinitum Nihil are teaming up to create a new version of the 1972 ABC telepic The Night Stalker that was written by Richard Matheson and starred Darren McGavin as Kolchak the rumpled tabloid journalist, who was relentless in his pursuit of various supernatural/horror movie phenomena.
Deadline Hollywood reports that it was Depp and his Infinitum Nihil partner Christi Dembrowski who brought the project to Disney and got the studio to agree to develop the project with Depp attached to star in the role of Kolchak. So far no behind-the-scenes talent for the film has been announced.
In 2005 ABC cancelled a revival of The Night Stalker TV series after three episodes (see “Night Stalker’ Axed). Moonstone Comics has published comics, graphic novel collections, and even a prose collection based on the property (see “New Kolchak Prose Collection”).
