Sixteen dramatic films have been chosen to be shown at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2003, and among them is American Splendor, based on the life and work of comic writer Harvey Pekar. The film was written and directed by Shari Springer and Robert Pulcini (The Last Days of Chasens), and is slated for airing on HBO next year. A theatrical release is also not out of the question. The sixteen dramatic films for the festival were chosen from over 800 submissions. Pekar's comics are published by Dark Horse Comics, and three trade paperbacks are in print from Four Walls Eight Windows Publishing.
