Dynamite Entertainment has announced the 2012 debut of Lord of the Jungle, a new series based on an evergreen property that first debuted in the pulp magazine All-Story Magazine in October of 1912. In welcoming Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Tarzan back to comics, Dynamite has decided to sell the first 32-page issue of its Lord of the Jungle comic, which will be written by Arvid Nelson and illustrated by Roberto Castro, for a cover price of just one dollar in order to get the maximum number of fans to sample the new series.
The first issue of the Lord of the Jungle comic will include 22 full pages of story and feature covers by some of today’s top artists including Lucio Parillo, Paul Renaud, Alex Ross, and Ryan Sook. With his scanty costume and athletic feats, ERB’s jungle hero always provided comic strip and comic book artists with a great opportunity to show off their master of anatomy, and it’s no accident that Burne Hogarth, Jesse Marsh, and Russ Manning and so many of the other “Tarzan” artists have left such a potent legacy.
