Ratings for geekfest sitcom The Big Bang Theory topped American Idol’s in the 18 to 49-year old demo, according to The New York Times.  The Big Bang Theory also bested American Idol in total viewers.  This would seem to indicate that more people are interested in viewing a show about geek culture than a show crafted to have broad mass appeal.
