Steve Jackson Games is tossing a lot of dice into the market this year: two new games (Dino Hunt Dice and Halloween Dice); an expansion for the popular Zombie Dice game called Double Feature; and seven new versions of Cthulhu Dice.

Dino Hunt Dice is a “push your luck” style dice game for three to eight players, and is designed for a younger audience than Steve Jackson’s other dice games.  Players compete to collect dinosaurs on the dice without getting “stomped” by the beasts they are seeking.  Steve Jackson Marketing Director Monica Valnetinelli explained the game to ICv2 at last week’s Toy Fair in New York:

Dino Hunt Dice is similar to Zombie Dice. We made a few changes: there are fewer dice, the dice are a little bit smaller, and the cup is smaller.  That is all designed around being good for children.  They can reach in there more easily; the dice are easier for them to hold.  You roll three dice.  You don’t want to get stomped on by the dinosaur.  Once you have three stomps your turn is over and the dinosaur walked on you.”

Dino Hunt Dice will release in late 2012.  The game includes ten custom dice and dice cup.  It plays in about 15 minutes and will have a suggested retail price of $9.95.

Halloween Dice is a quick dice game for three or more players who try to be the first to collect 13 Jack o’ Lanterns without going over.  Players must decide how many of the over-sized pumpkin dice to roll: rolling more dice offers greater rewards but also more risk.  Players can “spend” their candy to improve their odds.

Halloween Dice will be available in orange-on-black or black-on-orange versions, packaged on a pumpkin-shaped blister card with a suggested retail price of $9.95.  It is scheduled to release in August.

In April Steve Jackson Games plans to release the first expansion for the Zombie Dice game.  Zombie Dice 2: Double Feature will actually be two expansions in one.  The “Big Summer Action Move” adds the “Hunk” and “Hottie” dice, which are more dangerous to the players but offer double scoring.  “Santa Claus Meets the Zombies” adds a red Santa Claus die that may bring presents to the zombie players.  The “Direct-to-Video Sequel” rules allow players to combine both expansions together.

The three-die set will be released in a blister card format. It is not a stand-alone product, and a copy of the original Zombie Dice will be needed to play.  The suggested retail price will be $7.95.

Seven new styles of Cthulhu Dice are also planned for 2012.  Six are planned for release in April: Gold Pearl, Ichor Green, Sparkly Green, Swirly Pink, Ice Blue, and Copper.  The suggested retail price will be $6.95 per die.

In July, the Cthulhu Dice Metal will release.  This solid metal die comes with glass sanity tokens like the regular dice and will have a suggested retail price of $14.95.

Like all earlier versions of the Cthulhu Dice, each die is a stand-alone game suitable for two to six players which plays in about 10 minutes.
