Cubicle 7 has revised its plans for The One Ring role-playing game, based on feedback from its design team.  Originally envisioned as a series of slipcover core sets, the game will now feature individual sourcebooks and accessories.  Five new products are planned for 2012.

On its website, Cubicle 7 explained the reason for the new format: “We originally envisaged the game as a series of core sets interspersed with smaller supplemental releases, but while we were preparing material for the second core set, we realized that we would be repeating more information than we had expected.  The last thing we wanted was to leave people thinking that they had to buy the same information again just to get the new content.  We also realized that moving away from the core set structure would give us a greater degree of freedom with our releases.”

The new products scheduled for 2012 include:

Tales from the Wilderland: an adventure anthology including seven scenarios that can be linked together into a single campaign.  Scheduled to release in May or June.

The One Ring Dice Set: including seven themed dice in a hard plastic box. Scheduled to release in May or June.

Loremaster’s Screen and Laketown Sourcebook: with a sturdy cardboard gamemaster’s screen and a booklet containing information about the human settlement of Laketown, as well as rules for playing the “Men of the Lake.”  Scheduled to release in July or August.

The Darkening of Mirkwood: An epic campaign adventure that covers thirty years of Middle-earth history. Scheduled to release in August.

Rivendell (working title—final title to be determine later): a core supplement covering the “Rangers of the North” and the “Rivendell Elves,” as well as the region surrounding the “Last Homely House.”

The One Ring was released last year at the Gen Con game fair. See "Cubicle Seven's 'The One Ring' RPG" for details.
