Here is a ten-minute clip from the new Space Battleship Yamato 2199 anime produced by Xebec. Such is the popularity of the property in Japan, that the first two episodes of the series are getting a theatrical release in ten cities around the country starting on April 7th (and the 50-minute 2-episode saga will get its own Blu-ray release in Japan as well). This clip is in Japanese, but the iconic battle of Pluto with two massive star fleets fully engaged requires little in the way of translation, and this promotional sequence, which appeared on the Bandai channel in Japan, also includes the arrival of the ship from Iscandar (with its mysterious cargo) on Mars.
With its excellent animation and breathtaking level of mechanical detail this sequence marks the new 26-episode Yamato 2199 anime series as a "must see" for fans who love anime space operas, and it testifies to the influence of the director of the new series Yuatak Izubuchi (RahXephon), who earlier in his career worked on the mechanical designs for previous iterations of the Space Battleship Yamato franchise.
