Laeta Kalogridis, whose screen credits include Avatar, Shutter Island, and Alexander, has been tapped to write a new Terminator script along with Patrick Lussier, who worked on Wes Craven’s Dracula and My Bloody Valentine.
Deadline reports that producer Megan Ellison (Zero Dark Thirty, The Master), who purchased the Terminator rights is eager to get a new film featuring the assassin from the future underway. Arnold Schwarzenegger is also reportedly eager to return in his signature role, and somewhat frustrated at the previous lack of interest in the project by the major studios.
Kalogridis has extensive experience working closely with director James Cameron, who helmed the best Terminator movie in the franchise. In addition to working on Avatar, Kalogridis wrote the script for the as-yet-unproduced Cameron project Battle Angel Alita, and worked on an adaptation of another prominent manga-based property, Ghost in the Shell (see "'Battle Angel Alita' Is 'Just Add Water'" and "'Ghost in the Shell' Movie Closer").
