On Tuesday the Fox Television network made its first drama pilot commitment of the season by ordering a one-hour pilot for a new TV series based on Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill’s League of Extraordinary Gentlemen graphic novels, which are currently published by Top Shelf.  The Fox movie studio produced a LOEG feature film starring Sean Connery in 2003.  Made for around $80 million the movie only grossed $66 million in North America and $179 million worldwide.  Even though it came close to breaking even, the studio decided against producing a sequel.
 
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is a "team-up" book of public domain, turn-of-the-Century fictional heroes Alan Quartermain, Captain Nemo, the Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll and Mina Harker.

According to Deadline, the key figure in the LOEG project is producer Michael Green, who inked a two-year deal with Fox TV in 2012.  Green has had extensive experience working with comic book material. He was a writer and producer on the TV series Smallville and Heroes, and he has also written numerous comic books include a stints on Superman/Batman (#44-#63) and Supergirl.
