Comic-Con News: IDW Publishing has revealed plans to adapt Hunter S. Thompson's classic 1972 book Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas into a graphic novel. No release date or creative lineup has been announced.
Originally published in Rolling Stone and featuring illustrations by Ralph Steadman, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas cemented Thompson's iconic status as an outlaw journalist and political commentator. A 1998 film by director Terry Gilliam starring Johnny Depp as protagonist Raoul Duke introduced the book to an entirely new generation of Gonzo fans.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas follows IDW's significant publishing activity in literary adaptations over the years, including notable works by Richard Stark, George R.R. Martin, Harlan Ellison, and others.
IDW's foray into Thompson's world is not the first comics presence for the author. SelfMade Hero published a graphic biography of Thompson entitled Gonzo in 2011 (see "Abrams Comicarts' Spring List").
