Image Comics’ series Chew is getting another shot at development for TV, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Jeff Krelitz and Quality Transmedia would like to adapt John Layman and Rob Guillory’s darkly humorous comic hit as an animated series for digital and home video as a path to a live-action television series.
Krelitz has worked with Image Comics titles before under the same model (digital first, then TV), adapting Peter Panzerfaust (written by Kurtis J. Wiebe, art by Tyler Jenkins) into a motion comic and developing it as a live action TV series with BBC Worldwide (see "'Panzerfaust' Motion Comic").
Quality Transmedia has also recently optioned Image’s Hoax Hunters (by Michael Moreci and Steve Seeley) for a movie adaptation (see "'Hoax Hunters' Optioned for Film").
Chew was previously in development as a pilot at Showtime with Circle of Confusion (see "'Chew' Heading to TV" and "'Chew' on Showtime"). However, it never moved beyond development stage, and the option lapsed, and that’s when Krelitz picked it up.
Chew currently ranks #9 on ICv2's Top 10 Genre Properties--Spring 2013.
