New York Comic Con News: Dynamite Entertainment announced today that Eisner Award-winning writer Bill Willingham (Fables) is creating a seven-issue crossover populated by steampunk versions of the denizens of the Dynamite comic universe including Vampirella, Green Hornet, Kato, Steve Austin, Zorro, Captain Victory, Red Sonja, Flash Gordon, and the Phantom among others. Willingham’s 7-issue series, Legenderry: A Steampunk Adventure will debut in January of 2014, with the listing for issue #1 included in the November copy of Diamond’s Previews.
Willingham is a longtime industry veteran whose credits include the superhero series Elementals as well as Ironwood, Coventry, Pantheon, and Shadowpact, but who is best known for his creation of Fables and Fairest for Vertigo--popular series in which he was able to create a new "Roger Rabbit" like take on traditional fairy tales.
In Legenderry Willingham will have the same sort of freedom to re-imagine the classic Dynamite comic book characters in a Victorian "steampunk" setting. Willingham has personally overseen the re-design of the Dynamite characters, working closely with Dynamite cover artist Johnny D. to create new versions of these classic characters.
