Skydance Productions and Annapurna Pictures have announced plans to bring the Terminator franchise back to television, according to Hollywood Reporter.
The producers responsible for bringing the fifth movie to the screen in 2015 (see "'Terminator' Reboot") have hired the writing team of Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (Thor, X-Men: First Class). The pair also wrote and produced for Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Fringe. They will also executive produce the new series.
The TV show will pick up at a critical moment from the first Terminator film (from 1984) but while the movie story goes in one direction, the TV series will take the same moment and diverge in a completely different path. As the planned film trilogy progresses, the new TV series is planned to intersection with the movie narrative in “surprising and dramatic ways.”
The new Terminator film will premiere on July 1, 2015.
Dark Horse, the long-time Terminator comic licensee, is launching two new series this month (see "Two New 'Terminator' Comics").
