Dynamite Entertainment has announced the April debut of a new Flash Gordon comic book series that will be written by Jeff Parker (Aquaman, Batman 66), illustrated by Evan "Doc" Shaner (Deadpool, Ghostbusters), and colored by Jordie Bellaire (Captain Marvel, The Rocketeer). The new Flash Gordon comic book series, which will debut during on the 80th anniversary of the popular King Features comic strip hero will take place on the Planet Mongo and will feature the resourceful, optimistic science fiction icon as well as his friends (Dale Arden, Dr. Zarkov) and, of course, his adversary Ming the Merciless.
The first issue of the new Flash Gordon series will feature a wide selection of cover variants by artists such as Gabriel Hardman, Jonathan Case, Declan Shalvey, and Marc Laming. Plus Stephen Mooney will provide a special 80th Anniversary cover that captures the retro essence of the Golden Age Flash, while Ken Haesar will provide a cute, Subscription-only "L'il Flash" cover, and Diamond is also providing a blank "Authentix" cover that is designed for convention artist commissions.
Dynamite is also allowing retailers to order store-specific covers that mention their establishments. Retailers can participate in a propaganda "Death to Ming" cover, which will have its own code in the February Diamond Previews, or they can contact Dynamite to create their own unique Retailer variants.
