Skybound Entertainment will take its "The Walking Dead Escape" zombie obstacle course, which has appeared at San Diego and New York Comic Cons, shambling across the country on a nationwide tour. The tour will begin on April 24th in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and hit seven southern cities, with more coming soon. The event first took place in conjunction with San Diego Comic-Con in 2012 and 2013, and in conjunction with New York Comic Con last year as well.
Although more homegrown, Skybound’s tour is similar in scale to the Marvel Universe LIVE! tour (see "Marvel Goes on the Road" and "Marvel Live! Gets Its Women"), which has now announced multiple dates in each of its first seven cities.
Ticket prices are comparable, with "The Walking Dead Escape" tickets ranging from $20 Spectator tickets through $75 Survivor tickets and $95 Walker tickets (which include make-up and training) to $150 VIP packages (all plus Tickets.com fees). Marvel LIVE! Tickets vary depending on the venue, but were $40 to $120 (plus Ticketmaster fees) in Tampa on a Thursday, and $45 to $150 in Brooklyn on a Saturday.
The tours, if successful, will be another high profile demonstration of the numbers of fans and their willingness to spend significant amounts of money, in this case on experiences, on comic properties.
