J.J. Abrams and Disney plan an extensive re-creation of the desert landscape of Tatooine for Star Wars: Episode VII, according to Hollywood Reporter.
The famed home of Anakin Skywalker, and later, his son Luke, was originally created in Tunisia, but sources described the new planned location as "in a Morocco-like environment."
Episode VI: Return of the Jedi used Yuma, Arizona and Buttercup Valley, California for Tatooine scenes, and Episode I: The Phantom Menace returned to Tunisia for filming.
Episode VII news is running hot right now, with the recent announcement that filming has already started (see "'Star Wars VII' Shooting") and Chewbacca’s involvement was confirmed (see "Chewbacca Added to 'Star Wars: Episode VII'"). The story takes place 30 years after the events in Return of the Jedi (see "’'Star Wars: Episode VII' Starts Filming in May"), and is rumored to include the classic trio of characters (Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, see "Disney Is Taking 'Star Wars' Back to Its Roots").
