Marvel has announced that it will release movies on five additional dates beginning in 2017, and says it is not moving Captain America 3, which is set up to go head-to-head against Batman v. Superman.
The new dates are July 28 and November 3, 2017; July 6 and November 2, 2018: and May 3, 2019.
And on the subject of dates, Marvel studio head Kevin Feige was asked whether Marvel would move Captain America 3 off May 6, 2016, since Warner Bros. has also claimed it for Batman v. Superman. He told Empire that wasn't going to happen.
“So I continue to be all for quality entertainment for moviegoers to enjoy on weekends,” he said. “If it is on the same weekend I enjoy it slightly less. But we are doing what we’ve always done, which is sticking to our plan and sticking to our vision for the movies going forward and we have a very large vision that we’re working on for Cap 3 and for all the threes movies and just because another movie plops down onto one of ours doesn’t mean we are going to alter that. Maybe we should, but we’re not going to."
Marvel had claimed the date for an un-named film when Warner Bros. moved onto the date when the release date got moved back almost a year (see “Ouch! Superman/Batman Movie Bumped to 2016”). Marvel was undeterred, and named the film as Captain America 3 shortly thereafter (see “Marvel Movie Round-Up”).
