Fantasy Flight Games, the company that has produced the Lord Of The Rings board and trivia games, the Dragon Ball Z board game, and the Twilight Imperium board game, has acquired the rights to publish a board game based on Blizzard Entertainment's Warcraft computer games. Since its debut in 1994 with Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, over 8 million copies of Warcraft games have been sold worldwide. Warcraft II: Tides Of Darkness won several 'Game of the Year' awards, while the Warcraft III expansion The Frozen Throne will be released on July 1. Blizzard has already licensed White Wolf to create a Warcraft RPG (see 'White Wolf Plans Warcraft RPG') and Toycom has produced a line of Warcraft figures (see 'Warcraft Figs Street in April')
Fantasy Flight plans to create a large, expandable board game that captures the richness and complexity of the highly successful Warcraft real-time strategy computer games. The Fantasy Flight game will include the real-time strategy element of the computer games and make time itself a resource. Fantasy Flight's Warcraft Board Game is slated for release this Christmas. No details about the pricing are available yet.
