The first volume of the English language version of Yasuhiro Nightow's Trigun manga sold out an edition of 35,000 copies at wholesale within days of its release.  The thick, 350-page trade paperback published by Dark Horse sold quickly in spite of a $14.95 cover price, which is almost half again as much as the price of the typical American tankoubon -- though Trigun's heft definitely provides great value for the price.  Dark Horse is going back to press for 15,000 additional copies of the saga of the nice guy gunslinger, Vash the Stampede.  The manga clearly benefited from the Trigun anime's extended run on the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block.  Thanks to the anime version, Trigun is a well-known property here in the States, and if anything, the original manga is even more fun than the anime series.

The second super-fat, 344-page volume of Trigun manga, which goes on sale January 7th, is currently being solicited.  Retailers who have sold out of the first Trigun manga collection should consider potential reprinting delays when placing orders for Volume 2.
