Tokyopop has added a Heat Guy J page to the 'books' section of its Website, indicating that the publisher will be releasing the Heat Guy J manga here in the U.S on August 3. The Heat Guy J anime series, created by Kazuki Akane and Satelight (Escaflowne), started its run on the MTV 2 network on February 6. Set in the crime-ridden city state of Jewde, Heat Guy J is a stylish robot/crime/noir anime series reminiscent in tone and visuals of Cowboy Bebop. As was also the case with Cowboy Bebop, Heat Guy J originated as an anime series rather than a manga, so in reversal of the usual form, it is the anime that spawned the Heat Guy J manga series by Chiaki Ogishima. Although the manga series may be derivative, it does not mean that it won't sell -- witness the lusty sales of Tokyopop's Cowboy Bebop manga, which benefited from the popularity of the anime series on the Cartoon Network.
