Variety reports that Studio Hamburg's international production division, WorldWide Pictures, is teaming up with Joel Silver's Silver Pictures to make Dungeons and Dragons 2 (see 'Dungeons and Dragons Sequel in 04'), with filming to begin later this year in Europe.

 

WorldWide is using a private investment fund that backs lower budgeted ($5 to $20 million) English language films as long as they have a U.S. distributor, which in this case is Warner Bros., and a 'bankable minimum revenue guarantee.'  With that kind of budget, it sounds like this is a step up from the first D&D movie, but still not the kind of big-budget treatment that gamers would like.
