Tokyopop's Fruit Basket Vol. #5 vaulted to the top of the BookScan list of graphic novels sold in bookstores as Art Spiegelman's In the Shadow of No Towers slipped to second place.  Spiegelman's politically charged graphic novel has already sold over 21,000 copies and has a chance to become the #1 graphic novel of 2004 in spite of its fall debut. 

InuYasha Vol. #19 from Viz moved up to the #3 position, while Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis came in fourth.  Viz's Imadok Vol. #2, by Yu Watase, took the fifth spot while Del Rey's Tsubasa Vol. #2 was sixth. 

Viz's Rurouni Kenshin Vol. #7 took the seventh spot during its second week of release -- earlier Kenshin volumes did slightly better than Fruits Basket (the two series have been the top manga properties in bookstores so far this year), though, based on this week's survey, this pattern may be changing.  Next week's report should provide a better indication if this latest Kenshin volume will be able to overtake the new Fruits Basket entry.

Overall Viz placed five titles in the Top Ten while Random House had three and Tokyopop two.  Manga maintained its bookstore dominance, accounting for 46 out of the top 50 bestsellers.  Interestingly the eight manga titles in the Top Ten were evenly divided, with four shoujo series and four shonen.
