Frank Stopnitz, who wrote and produced numerous episodes of the X-Files, is developing a new series based on Kolchak, The Night Stalker, the short-lived cult fave that ran for one season on ABC in the 70s, according to Variety.  Kolchak served as an important inspiration for the X-Files, according to X-Files creator Chris Carter.

Two TV movies preceded the 1974-1975 series; the first was generally acknowledged as the high point of the incarnation.  Writers for the series included David Chase (Sopranos) and Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Tales from the Crypt, Forrest Gump).

Moonstone Books has been producing a comic version of Kolchak, The Night Stalker since 2002, including an adaptation of the original novel/first telepic by Jeff Rice, plus other stories by a variety of other creators including Stefan Petrucha, Ron Frenz, and Pat Oliffe.
