Variety is reporting that Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon has ended his TV development deal with Twentieth Century Fox TV.  Whedon, who is currently writing and directing a feature film, Serenity (based on his cancelled TV series Firefly), told Variety that he has been trying to think of new ideas for TV series, but was unable to come up 'with anything that the networks would want.'  Whedon is still working on an animated version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and told Variety he would continue to develop the project, though Sci-Fi.com recently reported that actress Sarah Michelle Gellar has decided not to voice the role of Buffy in the proposed animated series.

With both Buffy and Angel doing well in syndication, Fox TV remains interested in working with Whedon and the studio will have first dibs on any TV projects that he does create.  However Whedon appears to be disillusioned with the current state of American TV programming and in particular with the current vogue for 'reality TV,' which he characterized as 'loathsome.'
