IDW Publishing is reviving the tradition of the 1970s Warren Publications like Eerie and Creepy with a black-and-white illustrated newsprint horror anthology entitled Doomed, which is slated for an October release. The debut issue of the 72-page, 8.5' x 11' magazine will feature stories by Richard Matheson, Robert Block, David J. Schow, and F. Paul Wilson illustrated by a stellar group of artists including Ashley Wood, Eduardo Barretto, Ted McKeever and Kristian Donaldson. Every issue will be presided over and narrated by the magazine's eyepatch-wearing Ms. Doom.
With some major hits like 30 Days of Night, IDW has certainly helped revive the EC horror comic book tradition. Now with Doomed the publisher has set its sights on the pulpy Warren magazines, publications that were no less influential on kids growing up in the 1970s than the ECs were to those who came of age in the 1950s.
