Geneon has announced that it will release Shana Volume 1 (called Shakugan no Shana in Japan) in September. This new anime (it started airing in Japan last year) is directed by Takashi Watanabe, who directed Slayers and Ikki-Tousen (see 'Geneon Plans Ikki-Tousen for August'), among others. It's based on a manga; twelve volumes have been published in Japan, according to the always useful Anime News Network encyclopedia. Volume 1 will include the first four episodes of the series.
Yuji Sakai, who is primarily concerned with going to school and finding a girlfriend, meets Shana, a sword-wielding girl with fiery red eyes and flame colored hair. Together they battle the Denizens of the Crimson World, who are invading our world.
