According to The Hollywood Reporter, Benderspink Productions has attached producer Josh C. Kline to adapt the classic anime series Star Blazers into a live action film. Three TV series and five animated features were produced in the 70s and 80s (also under the name Space Battleship Yamato). The storylines concern earth in the distant future, with its citizens banding together after an alien force nearly destroys the planet. Walt Disney Studios had a live action adaptation in development in the '90s.
